F.A.Q's
Freguently Asked Questions? If you do not find the answer to your question, please write us at questions@basicsinternational.org, and we will get back to you at once and post your answer for others who might have the same question.

Thank you for your enquiries.
Q: What can I expect when I sponsor a child's education?
A: You should expect to get a photograph and biography of the child, after the school year begins in September. You may also receive periodic letters from the child, along with the final report card at the end of the school year in August.
Q:How long is the sponsorship for?:
A: Sponsorship is for one academic year; September to August. Every sponsor has the choice to renew each year.
Q:When is my renewal due?
A: If a sponsor is wishing to renew his sponsorship to a child; it should be sent between June- August. The deadline for sponsorship is October.
Q: I sponsored a child last year, however this year when I renewed I was given a different child, why?
A: Although, a sponsor may renew his sponsorship, the child who receives it may differ if the previous child has been discharged from the program. Migration is a major issue, why a child is no longer on the program.
Q:Can I sponsor more than one child?
A Yes, you can can sponsor as many children as you like. In some cases, twenty children are sponsored by one donor.
Q:How come the fees for Secondary School are so much more than the Primary?
A: It's true that fees for Secondary School (High School) are much more than primary school. There are many factors that can explain this, but one of the major factors is; most Seconadry Schools are boarding; therefore the fees include room and board.
Q:What happens if the child I have been sponsoring, is now in Secondary School; however I cannot afford to donate that much, will I be given another child and will my former child have a new sponsor?
A: Yes, you will be given a new child, and your former child will be given a new sponsor.
Q: How come I did not receive a report card for the child I sponsored?
A: BASISC relies on the schools in which the children attend to give us the report cards so we can then forward it to you. However, often this is not done for various reasons; children often don't return the record card when it is given on previous terms. In some cases, children drop out of school due to migration or they returned to his/her former occupations. Another reason report cards are not given to us; schools officials claim they do not have enough report cards to cover the children; therefore no report card is assigned to the child. Despite all of these challenges, we are working hard to ensure each sponsor does receive a report card..
Q:I have two months off from work, and would like to travel to Ghana and work with your organization, do I have to pay a fee?
A: There are NO fees to volunteer with our organization. BASICS welcomes volunteers and values their contributions. However international volunteers are responsible for their own expenses (airfare, accomodations). BASICS will work with international volunteers to secure inexpensive accomodations/homestays.
Q:When I make a donation, it is tax deductible? If yes, will I get a letter from you for filing my taxes?
A: BASICS International is a registered 501(c)(3) organization, therefore all donations are tax deductible. It not is not required that we provide a letter for donations under $250.00; however we do acknowledge all donations. If additonal information is needed, regarding your donation, please contact our office
