Twenty-one students and three Spelman staff members are in Ghana, West Africa,
this week to gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of cultural and
religious diversity among women of African descent.
"Empowering Women for Change Study Tour," a student development program,
is designed to enhance the learning and holistic development of Spelman students.

organised a Christmas party for 50 children from B.A.S.I.C.S
International on Sunday, the 20 December 2009. The day
started with a swimming session in the baby pool where
a lot of splashing, laughter and general excitement were
the order of the moment.

01_ As part of our holiday program, the children were challenged to select and befriend a needy person in the community completeley unknown to them.
The children were divided into 10 groups; each choosing a person
whom they wanted to help during the holiday season. The criteria was to choose anyone, who they thought could use assistance.

01_Standard Chartered Staff Clean Up Chorkor
Over 50 staff from the Customer
Support Department of the Shared Service Centre, Standard
Chartered Bank have engaged in a clean up exercise at
Chorkor, a suburb of Accra as part of their employee volunteering
efforts. The volunteers led the youth in the community
to desilt gutters and pick up plastic waste for recycling
as part of the Bank’s Sustainability Agenda which includes
fighting malaria and protecting the environment.
The exercise was part of a follow up visit to Brothers
And Sisters In Christ Serving (B.A.S.I.C.S.), an NGO which
serves as a safe haven for about 240 under-privileged
school children, and which is committed to child education,
health screening exercise and adult literacy classes for
